Therapy with Ana

Given the overwhelming demand for therapy since You Don't Understand Me was published, Tara has employed a second Psychologist to work with her.  Ana is well known to Tara as they worked together at the Royal Free Hospital.  As Ana has relocated to Portugal, therapy with Ana is only online.  She will be regularly discussing her therapeutic work with Tara.  She will be starting work in August 2022.

She works with both adolescents and adults and has experience working with a wide range of mental health difficulties, including anxiety, low mood, self-harm, eating disorders and body image issues, low self-esteem, and relationship difficulties. Ana uses an integrative approach by combining CBT, DBT, Narrative Therapy, Systemic Therapy and Emotion-focused approaches. Ana trained and worked in the NHS in a variety of settings for the last 8 years. She has a special interest in eating disorders and has worked with the NELFT Eating Disorders Service for adolescents and adults, and the Royal Free Hospital Eating Disorder Service for young people.

Ana grew up in Portugal and qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2006. She was awarded a PhD scholarship and moved to the UK in 2007. She completed her PhD in Developmental Psychology at the Royal Holloway University of London. She then worked at the University College London on several research projects about the impact of physical illness on mental health and how illness affects family members. This work inspired her to learn more about working systemically with individuals and families and she decided to train in this field. She completed her Master's degree in Family Therapy in 2018 at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London.
