Dr Tara Porter 
Clinical Psychologist and Author

 

Tara has been  a Clinical Psychologist for 27 years. She worked in the NHS for longer still, and has unparalleled experience working therapeutically, teaching, writing and speaking about mental health.  With a broad clinical practice she enjoys working with adolescents, adults and couples in her private practice in north-west London.  She is an experienced supervisor offering a warm and reflective space, a wealth of experience, and a deep understanding of mental health.

Her NHS work was with children and adolescent eating disorders, where she lead a CAMHS Psychology Team.  She also worked on the National Training Programme for CAMHS Eating Disorders as a mentor to other Eating Disorders services.  She also has a special interest in mental health in schools and worked with the Anna Freud Centre writing and providing training for schools, colleges and educational authorities.  She writes for the Times Educational Supplement, and is a judge on their School of the Year award. 

She is the author of a Sunday Times Bestselling Book "You Don't Understand Me: The Young Woman's Guide to Life, which has been translated into many languages, and published internationally.  Her new book "The You Don't Understand Me Journal", an interactive book for girls and young women, is now out and available here https://geni.us/YDUMjournal.

She regularly writes and speaks about mental health in the mainstream media.

 

She teaches at UCL where she is as an Associate Clinical Tutor.
